History

In 1934 Edgware was still a village and there were open fields all around. Very different to today. But with the coming of the underground the open spaces were systematically cut up into roads and building sites and families were moving into their own houses.

A number of Christians in this new neighbourhood used to gather together regularly for prayer, and it was this group that took the first steps that would lead to the founding of Camrose Baptist Church. The church was constituted as such on 24 February 1935 and the first building was simply a wooden hut.

The building, that is now the main church, was originally planned to be the church hall, and building work started on 27 July 1935, and the cost of the project was £3800. The building was opened on 22 February 1936.

An extension - our current hall, lounge and kitchen - was completed in September 1976.

But a church is not about the building - it is about the people. And over the years many many people have come together in this place. Some have gone on to train as Baptist ministers, others have travelled to different parts of the world to serve the people there, young people have grown in their faith through various activities and groups.

On 27 February  2022 we celebrated our 87th anniversary. We looked back and thanked God for His faithfulness and looked forward with anticipation of what God will do here in the future.
